Please note that the details of the construction of Hafez’s tomb have been written in numerous Persian books and articles. Finally, the history of the tomb appears in Encyclopedia Iranica. It is important to note that the tomb was built on the orders of Mozayyen al Dowleh and the poetry around the tomb clearly states this. It was also designed by him and built in 1900-1901. This is also very well documented. Hence, it was not designed in the 1930s by Andre Godard. please note that at the time, Mozayyen al Dowleh was the deputy governor of the state of Fars, where Shiraz was its capital, and he was also the teacher and mentor to the King’s son, Shoa al Saltaneh, who was then the young Governor of Fars.(Note, his name is sometimes written as Mozayyan al Dowleh)
The above information is also given in the poetries of Forsat, the famous poet from Shiraz, who described the building of the tomb, and composed the poetry that decorated it. In the end, it would help researchers if the information provided on your website were corrected. Thank you for your attention.
Correction: The present day tomb of Hafiz is designed by Andre Godard. The text that provides the initial explanation about the tomb’s construction could be clearer on this issue. It shows the old tomb and then states that the present tomb is designed by Andre Godard. It would prevent any misunderstanding if it stated that the present day tomb was built by him. Thank you.
