Inspired by a Persian incense burner found in an antique store in New Orleans, the architect John Eberson designed the Avalon Theatre of Chicago in late 1925.

Eberson designed an atmospheric style auditorium that would resemble a Persian palace beneath a starry night sky. The Avalon Theatre became famous for its elaborate and exotic interior, featuring hand laid mosaics, jewel encrusted walls, calligraphic ornamentation and finely patterned moldings.
