This house near Ferdowsi Square was built by the Russian architect Alexander Belyn in 1938. Belyn was working for Kampsax - a Danish construction company founded in 1917 which had several projects in Iran, including the construction of 900 km of cross-country railroads.

The Tehran Opera Company was founded in 1967 by the Iranian Ministry of Culture and Art. The company was active until 1978. It officially ended its activities after the Iranian revolution. This booklet is the company’s program for 1974-1975 season.

Lady Cockroach is a short play for children published in 1929 in the city of Shiraz, Iran. According to the cover, the author Mirza Jabbar Askarzadeh (often known as Jabbar Baghtcheban) was the head-teacher of a kindergarten in Shiraz. He later established the first Iranian kindergarten for the deaf, and was the inventor of Persian cued speech.

The old headquarters of Ettelaat publishing company from the 1930s is located in Khayam Street, Tehran. Ettelaat newspaper is the oldest Iranian newspaper in Persian, still being published.

The national football (soccer) team of Iran, known in Persian as Team Melli, ranks 1st in Asia and 33rd in the world according to the December 2013 FIFA World Rankings.

These are images from a recently-found completely unrecorded Shahnameh in British Library collection. This copy of Shahnameh is probably from 1640, illustrated by by Muhammad Yusuf, a prolific artist during the reigns of the Safavid rulers Shah Safi (r. 1629-42) and Shah Abbas II (r. 1642-66).

Massoud Nili, who has lived in the U.K. since he was 10 years old, changed his Peykan Hunter into a 1970s’ Iranian taxi. He says: “To me my taxi is [like] history on four wheels, it gives me pleasure bringing back some memory from our past.”

According to the latest news Zahiroleslam’s House is going to be demolished soon. The house is one of the rare examples of the architectural fusion style of the early 20th century that combines elements of Iranian traditional architecture with European styles.

Discussing his pictures of the Friday flea market in Darvazeh-Esfahan, the photographer, Kamran Heidari, says: “This is the only place that you feel life is going on. If you want to see the real Shiraz you have to see this place. [The touristic] Zandiyeh complex is always there to visit but this [flea market] is there only for three hours.” The pictures are taken between 2008 and 2013.
