Comic books were not popular in Iran until the 1960s when a children’s magazine, Keyhan Bacheha, began publishing them. Between 1969 to 1977 Universal Publishers, published thirteen books from Tintin series.
Talai (Golden) Book Series was a collection of simplified and abridged classics for kids published by Amir Kabir publication company in Tehran during the 1960s and 1970s. Their affordable price made them very popular among many children. For many, these books were their first introduction to the world literature.
“Regained Glory” (published in 1974, illustrated by Dino Attanasio) is a comic book that narrates the official pro-Shah history of post-WWII Iran up to early 1970s. The book is targeted towards the young adults.
Mice and the Cat (ascribed to Ubayd Zakani, born in the late 14th century) is one of the earliest known Children books in Persian.
The Little Black Fish (1966) is a classic of Iranian children books. The book is illustrated by Farshid Mesghali. The illustrations won him the first graphic prize at the 6th Bologna Children’s Book Far (1968) and the Honorary Diploma at Bratislava Biennial, Czechoslovakia (1968).
